The condo isn't to blame!

Le condo n’est pas coupable !

Replacing your old condenser with a new one is essential. The condenser is a wear part, and after a certain time, it no longer performs its role.

Replacing it with an electronic model is a good idea because it is currently the most reliable model available.

The miracle solution?

No, even an electronic condenser is not THE miracle solution to ALL your ignition problems, and when you service your ignition, you should carefully check (or have checked if you don't feel capable) certain essential points.

First, the breaker points. This moving part is very important in triggering the spark. The elements of your breaker points must be free of rust, grease, or oil. The contacts must be clean, evenly worn, and the studs must... still be present! Your breaker points must also be perfectly mobile; nothing should hinder their operation. Finally, their gap during "breakage" must perfectly conform to the manufacturer's data.

As you understand, an electronic condenser does not replace poorly assembled or faulty breaker points!

The ignition coil: it too must be as clean as possible, free of rust or dirt, it must be well positioned and not touch the magnetic field, for example. Its resistance values, at high and low voltage, must conform to the manufacturer's data, both cold and hot. Finally, the wires coming out of this coil, its connection terminal must be perfect: not cut, not rusted, not frayed...

Here too, an electronic condenser cannot replace a weak or dead coil!

The ignition wires: inside the ignition, all wires must be in good condition: no cut or stripped wire, no short to ground, no melted wire, no patched-up wire, etc. Similarly, every contact or fastener must be checked: no loose bolt, no intermittent contact, no dodgy terminal!, no connection with electrician's terminal blocks (yes, I've seen that!) 🙂
