And here is a newly restored 3800.

Entrusted by a client, the aim was to completely refurbish it while giving it a little more torque.

Here is a brief summary of what was done to this machine, along with a photo slideshow.

Model: 3800

History: This 3800 has a twist-grip throttle and gold pinstripe paint.

Options: a nice pair of panniers, at the client's request.

What was done to this 3800:

The entire machine was restored down to the smallest detail.

Chassis

The paint was completely redone by powder coating, just like in its era, after being stripped and sandblasted, piece by piece.

The chrome parts are new or re-chromed, except for the handlebars, which were properly salvaged.

All the screws were re-zinc plated to new,

The spokes and tires are new,

The plastic parts are new, except for the saddle, which was refurbished because dark grey saddles are no longer available.

The fuel tank and magnetic flywheel cover are new,

The decals were replaced identically,

Accessories (tools, pump, bell) are present and functional,

The front brake pads and rear brake linings are also new,

Finally, the sheaths and cables have been replaced with new ones.

Engine side

The engine was treated according to preparation 2:

  1. Disassembly, cleaning, and micro-blasting of all engine parts,

  2. Replacement of bearings (engine and clutch), gaskets, and engine-side oil seal,

  3. Replacement of all screws with original, new zinc-plated screws,

  4. Installation of a new 39.5 cylinder/piston with 3 transfers; the cylinder was painted with high-temperature glossy black paint to maintain the engine's original look,

  5. Clutch overhaul,

  6. Fuel pump overhaul,

  7. Cleaning of fuel hoses,

  8. Carburetor overhaul and cleaning,

  9. Replacement of the fuel return hose on the tank,

  10. Ignition overhaul and adjustment, installation of an electronic condenser,

  11. Replacement of spark plug wire and spark plug,

  12. Installation of a new air filter and re-boring of the filter chimneys to match the new cylinder,

  13. Replacement of engine support rod silent blocks,

  14. Replacement of the decompressor rod,

  15. The exhaust pipe is new.

The photos below show the details of the work done to achieve the final result.
