3800 luxe rouge

Model: 3800

History: This 3800 is a luxurious red one, with beautiful red paint, stainless steel mudguards, and white-wall tires.

Options: None.

What was done to this 3800:

We started with a heavily damaged base and completely restored every detail.

Frame

The paint was entirely redone by powder coating, just like in its original era, after being stripped and sandblasted, piece by piece.

The chrome parts are new or re-chromed. I chose to keep the smooth rims. They were de-rusted, sanded, polished, and then re-chromed.

All the screws were re-zinced to new condition.

The spokes and tires are new.

All plastic parts were recovered and restored, as was the headlight cover.

The fuel tank and magnetic flywheel cover are new.

The decals were reapplied identically.

Accessories (tools, pump, bell) are present and functional.

The front brake pads and rear brake linings are also new.

Finally, the sheaths and cables have been replaced with new ones.

Engine side

The engine was treated according to preparation 3:

  1. Disassembly, cleaning, and micro-blasting of all engine parts.

  2. Replacement of bearings (engine and clutch), seals, and oil seal on the engine side.

  3. Replacement of all screws with original, newly zinc-plated screws.

  4. Installation of a new 41 cylinder/piston with 3 transfers; the cylinder was painted with high-temperature glossy black paint to maintain the engine's original look.

  5. Clutch overhaul.

  6. Fuel pump overhaul.

  7. Cleaning of fuel hoses.

  8. Carburetor overhaul and cleaning.

  9. Replacement of the fuel return hose on the tank.

  10. Ignition overhaul and adjustment, installation of an electronic condenser.

  11. Replacement of spark plug wire and spark plug.

  12. Installation of a new air filter and re-boring of the filter chimneys to match the new cylinder.

  13. Replacement of engine support rod silent blocks.

  14. Replacement of the decompressor rod.

  15. The exhaust pipe is new.

When riding, it's a classic 3800, so no surprises. However, the engine's preparation work makes it much more responsive and torquey. It's in its break-in period, has good power (a small rocket according to my test rider :)) and brakes very well.

The photos below show you the detailed work done to achieve the final result.

All made by Atelier de la Vigne, of course!
