It's not always about re-chroming... some parts can be "saved" without going through the re-chroming process.
Other parts shine but are not necessarily chromed: this is the case for stainless steel or aluminum parts.
In this case, careful polishing can work wonders and make all the difference between a restoration and a "masterpiece."
However, the polishing technique is delicate.
First, you need the right equipment: a polishing lathe, polishing cloths, polishing compounds... all depending on what you want to achieve and the base material. Then, you need "a knack": cross passes, insisting without overheating, polishing in the direction of the metal, etc.
In short, it's not always as easy as you might think with a cotton wad and a drop of Belgom 🙂
If you want a beautiful result, don't hesitate to contact the Workshop; we'll be happy to help you!
Some examples:
Here, a magneto... difficult to re-chrome with its inserted magnets... if it's not too damaged, polishing is enough to restore its youth:

Here, a pedal set... not too pitted but quite ugly to begin with... polish and voilà:

Here are some "stainless steel" parts: no possibility of re-chroming, but polishing can always improve them:
