Restauration d’une Motobécane AV 48 Episode #1

Jean-Philippe wanted to transform his AV 44 into an AV 48.

Indeed, the AV48's variable clutch engine is significantly more powerful, especially uphill, than the AV44's fixed clutch.

However, he also wanted to keep the "yellow" color of his model.

So he gathered all the necessary components for mounting a "variable" engine (including the frame) and brought everything to the workshop.

First step, as usual, a complete disassembly of the machine was necessary.

This allows for checking parts, noting what is missing, preparing parts for future treatments, and "organizing" according to what needs to be done.

As usual, we take photos beforehand to compare with the final result in a few months.

The satisfying part is that, apart from certain specific parts (like the engine mounts), the whole thing is in rather good condition even if rust has started to set in.

After a few days of work, everything is ready for the next stage:

A box of bodywork elements ready for chemical stripping,

All the screws before a thorough cleaning followed by micro-blasting and finally a new surface treatment,

And finally "everything else," which will need to be cleaned and refreshed before reassembly, including the telescopic fork bushings.

Finally, the "donor" engine is "stripped down" for a complete overhaul:

and it's far from a luxury! !

More to follow in the next episode!
